Dewi Sri is considered an important fertility goddess, especially in Bali and Java. She regulates all life, controls the prosperity of the food that grows on the earth, especially in her function as the moon goddess, and determines death, allowing plants, animals and humans to return to her womb.

She therefore also rules over the underworld or other world. Above all, however, it provides food for humans and thus ensures their survival.

As rice is the staple food of this region, Dewi Sri is above all the revered rice goddess. She is described as a goddess of unusual beauty. She is always depicted as youthful, lithe and slender.

The sculpture was made from cast stone and refined with a finish. The coloring may vary and fade due to weathering.

The goddess holds both hands at chest height. The index finger and thumb of each hand form a circle, the fingertips of the left hand touch the palm of the right hand: this hand position is called: Setting the wheel of teaching in motion (Dharmachakra mudra).
